Hi Steve

I would like to win a Bermuda Bowl, and a Spingold would be nice. I have so many seconds I have lost track.

I consider myself a story teller, so I would write some sort of whimsical memoirs, but since no-one would buy it, don't look for it sometime soon

Cheating is deadly disease. It must be eradicated at all costs, and the best players have to be the ones to do it. I was pleased that my seeding committee eliminated any seeding points won with convicted crooks

I guess my favorite was the hand vs Uruguay (in his favorite 52, great book), where we got 2300 vs a voluntarily bid Grand. The director arrived 20 minutes later and informed us that the opposition had 12 and 14 cards. The board was thrown out, what fun.

We did an update about 7 years ago, but Brent Manley and I have no plans for another. If I was starting a new partnership I would play almost exactly what Sonty and I play. Precision, 14-16 NV, 15-17 vul, lots of bells and whistles with a little bit of Larry and David Precision for simplicity sake, as my memory is not what it once was, sad to say

I love fit-showing jumps They are often very helpful in judging competitive situations

I assume you mean they were our teammates. If you limit me to husbands and wives, our favorites include the Levins, Pollacks, Sanborns Stansbys, Beth Palmer and Bill Pettis, all of whom we are delighted to play with. There are so many others (we won also with Mark and Stasha, and the Bjerkins) and are playing in Orlando with the Pollacks and Ralph Katz, with Cheri B. Looking forward to it.

Barry is one of the primary seeders, along with coach Erik, and our whiz kid Brian Platnick. We have decided to make seeding as formula based as possible. Nowadays, we have had an influx of so many foreigners, it is hard to slot them. We use their WBF records as one way to give them seeding points. Since Americans get some seeding points based on Master Point holdings, we do investigate their home records and try to assign them an appropriate number of MPs. This should also help the regional seeding problem. I have some ideas for regionals, one of which is that if you have ever won a NABC you are first flight. WBF event too. We no longer award seeding points to foreigners based on reputation. SPs must be earned. When some youngsters (of course I think 40 is young) tell us how many SPs they deserve, we say go ahead and play and earn them. After all, that is what the Grossacks and all our American juniors have to do.

Yes I played with John for one event that I remember the Continental Cup in Leeds England We lost a close match in the finals. John would talk to me about bidding, he had some ideas like 3nt ends all auctions and 3 cue bids we have to bid slam. He would throw out some convoluted sequence to me hand say “what is 5H here” Of course I would have no idea, but I would answer it must show the Jack of clubs the King of diamonds and the Queen of Hearts. He said perfect We were a match. He was a great bidding theoretician, and in one of Roth's rants he told all the young New Yorkers that none of us could play, except of course John. I loved to watch him declare. Playing some spades contract with a trump issue, he would dance around in the other suits until it became obvious how to play spades. A true artist, he is missed

I think I misspelled Bob's name sorry. I just played for a week with him and may be subconsciously deleting his name from my mind (LOL)

I have so many great memories, but I suppose it was getting to my first Vandy final in the mid 70's. What a thrill. My partner was the late Jim Jacoby

Then of course there was the walk off grand slam that Cohler and I made to win a Grand National, off only 2 aces (his fault if you ask me, do us a favor and don't ask him).

As always, it is hard to argue with your reasoning. Our small corner of the world is seeding, and we are trying to do our best to run fair events,

Judy, my pal
The ACBL has refused to vacate many titles. The seeding committee, with ACBL approval, have taken the view that despite the leagues reluctance to act, we strip 100% of ill-gotten points? What more can we do?

you should be aware that 32 is a 25-32 flip, as is 33-40, so that 32 vs 33 can really be 25 vs 40

the 1 seed is always the defenders the one seed is often at table 5 these days. Clients are by and large segregated and start against each other, although some client pairs are much better than others. For the second day on the field is meticulously seeded from top to bottom

Phil,
You assume that the top teams will have a better knowledge of the lower teams than the committee. Many members of the committee play all over the world, and Kokish and Rigal (both seeders) have a keen awareness of world bridge. When and unknown shows up, we also consult with other players from their respective areas.

National pair games are all seeded, and reseeded for 2nd and 3rd days by members of the seeding committee. Regional pair games at nationals are seeded by our fine staff of directors

As long as the defenders have 4 players intact, they automatically are seeded #1 as defenders

In the good old days, the tournament didn't really start until the late rounds. With the current influx of foreigners and youth, the field is so much deeper and uniformly stronger that it is no longer unusual to get upsets in the round of 64, and the round of 32 is a minefield.

Michael

I appreciate your passionate defense of my so-called bidding. It now appears that I will be giving GC another stroke, as I am unwilling to bribe as many voters as he seems to be (see Janice, Harry and others). I still think the worst bid was his XX of 4 spades. What in the world can be wrong with bidding 5 spades here and now. All you want is the club ace, This is the bid that demands it.

Thanks to all my other supporters

David
