But because you and others remember the stories they still live on. Its all history is, unless you take the view rough diamond at his entrance interview for Oxbridge, from the movie The History Boys. When asked what is history he instantly responded,'One effing thing after another.'

I am sure that has a different connotation in American parlance :)

Dixon and Silverstone played 2nt forcing in all auctions, and 3 or 3.

Thank God I would have bid 4 initially.

but can be an invite if you agree, and there is no known auction where 2nt is to play. Competitive or not.

Playing standard jacoby then 3nt denies shortage and good second suit suit and should show very good spades. After a two level bid in new suit I think solid spades and stops in unbids maybe short in partner's suit.

It is not important as long as you have agreed something.

Seems you cannot live with it because you now do not understand partner's bid.

With that hand I would pass and pass a re-opening double too.

If you want to lead high the ace is ok. Might fetch a stiff honour from dummy.

Most sports included in the Olympics are professional, one of the failings in the bridge world is unlike many sports there is no professional body.

It was richly deserved and you are quite correct.

I was indirectly involved in an incident some years ago. There was a rude aggressive and totally obnoxious player who knocked over my partner's drink. He said nothing and my partner reasonably suggested he apologise, nly to be to be told graphically to go forth and multiply. My partner complained to the director, who said it was nothing to do with him and to make his own arrangements. Within a few seconds said obnoxious guy was holding his jaw and trying to get up–then the room broke in to spontaneous applause. Just goes to show there are some people it does not pay to bully.

When I bid 2 had I run out of double cards?

Maybe I should abstain but might still be in this situation. I have three potential tricks and partner should have good spades. After a two level response I would consider 3 as forcing.

It seems to me that 2 was exactly as described although I would likely have bid 4 immediately. Assuming an in tempo 3 nothing was wrong.

It was a terrible time especially for the gay community when HIV first emerged in the west. I still remember the disgusting comments made and the number of lives tragically ended, I am not surprised about Mike's comment but I am saddened.
