If my partner hadn't been the doubler, I wouldn't have seen it either

Hi,

My long term bridge partner and I are also looking for a pair for the senior swiss. We have about the same number of masterpoints you do. Feel free to call at 703 528 3156 or email: peterpan@aaahawk.com

Hi Bill,

Sounds like a recipe for getting to the two level when you could play at the one level with a bad hand opposite a 5 card major or playing NT too pften when it's wrong. The issue is not when responder has 6-7, it's when responder hs 2!

They basically let him keep his 0 and told my partner, who still doesn't understand why it's illegal - “naughty, naughty, don't do it again”

If you play 4 card majors, you will almost always have 3, and 4 will be the most common holding. The actual hand that got me on this site is my partner's pdych with xx xx JTxxx KQx and our opponents got all upset brcause of it. I bid normally, didn't know he psyched and lead a diamond when the auction told me he had the suit. They got a 0 because the guy who was complaining played it worse than they both bid it.

I guess the real way around this ridiculousness is to play 4 card majors (my preferred style anyway) in third seat and promise 3 diamonds, since it is apparently legal to psych 1D if it promises 3.

I just have a problem with being able to psych 1C in standard and NOT 1D in precision. It essentially bars precision players for psyching when standard players are not barred from psyching 1C. I do understand why I cannot psych 1C in precision. That seems to put an undue burden on those who open a conventient 1D (which is usually NOT artificial) as opposed to a convenient 1C. If 1C was also an illegal psych in standard I'd have less problem with this. The reason precision pairs psych 1D is because they cannot psych 1C.

When I make a very light 3rd seat bid, it's not an upgrade, it's intended as a psych. Whether I open Id, iH, 1S or something semi-natural at the two level depends on what I think is best on that particular hand and has nothing to do with the fact that 1D can be 2 while 1 the others promise some length. I think in standard, opening 1 of a very short major knowing partner will be forced to bid 2C and you can pass would also be quite effective. Is anyone complaining about abouse of drury? I think this is all nonsense. Psyching in part of the game and an flight A competition you have to be prepared for it.

I don't think opening a precision 1D as a psyche is any different than opening 1C in standard as a psyche. Although non-precision bidders seem to think it's nebulous, most precision pairs treat the 1D opening as natural. What makes any third seat psyche effective in precsion is the fact that when 1st hand passes, he can't have enough to really hang partner for opening anything. As far as artificiality is concerned, with some of my precsion partners I play 4 card majors, so while 1D can theoretically be 2, it is almost always 4.

My agreement with my most frequent precision partner is 1, but we explain when asked that it is only 1 if 4-4-1-4. In my preferred precision style, I play 4 card majors, so while the minimum diamond holding is 2, more often than not there are 4 diamonds when we open a diamond.

I had the opposite happen to me. In the last round of the first day of the 3 day swiss, my partner's phone went off the middle of the hand. She immediately reached into her purse and shut it off. Clearly we were NOT cheating. We were supposed to be sitting out that match and got dragged in at the last moment. The guy sitting to my left immediately shot his hand up, got a director over and she wrote something down, Don't know if there was a penalty assessed or not. Neither team was going to Q anyway and we were in the process of blizting the other team
