Someone recently pointed out to me the motion to get rid of extended team games held by units. Action on the motion was deferred to the summer meeting. Our unit has been holding an annual round robin and an annual knockout for a very long time. Matches are usually held in players' homes, and these are social events as well as competitive ones. It will be a big loss for our unit if this motion is approved this summer.

BBO has long encouraged pick-up partnerships in its tournaments (including the ones awarding ACBL masterpoints). I haven't picked anyone up there for years now, but when I did it was a common practice for one player to post a card for the partnership to use, and to look at it during the tournament. I realize this is a completely different question from what an experienced partnership should do, but if there's a rule against people looking at their partnership's card during tournaments, I don't know why the convention cards are both made accessible to both partnerships.

Use hand diagrams instead of pictures of cards.

Are other individual clubs ever going to be able to set up their own games, or will this be limited to a small number of clubs?

And another problem is staffing.

My husband has some condition (not sure which one) that causes him to have pleural effusion if he takes ibuprofen for long. Maybe that's the kind of effect they're concerned about.

Definitely no reason to be located in Horn Lake to do that (unless they're going to start holding all of the NABCs in Memphis).

I think it's reasonable for it to be one factor to consider for what it's worth, but even when I'm not forced to work at home, I work closely with people who aren't in the same location as mine and it works well.

I know the synagogue we rent from isn't charging us rent while we're closed, and I haven't heard from any other church or synagogue around here that's charging rent to a bridge club while not offering space. Most of the games around here are in churches and synagogues.

AS someone who expects to work remotely for the next 4 months (along with a lot of other people), I think the requirement is silly too.

I didn't know but my phone did once I plugged in your question along with your hint. Go Tigers.

I have one occasional partner who likes this agreement, so I play it with her.

Swine flu was one of those viruses that hit younger people particularly hard. I worked with a woman in her late 20s who died of complications from swine flu.

The cherry blossoms are supposed to peak in Washington, DC during the week of the NABC. If I weren't going to be in Columbus, I'd be home commuting to work on the subway with tourists from all over the world.

That might be a question for District 6 rather than ACBL.

I love that a Southwest ticket is not a big commitment. I have a Southwest ticket. I am definitely going to the NABC, but I'm considering driving if the weather won't be bad. Door to door, it's not that much quicker to fly than to drive (so I might have decided to drive even if it weren't for the virus), and I'm thinking that my car will be a healthier place than an airplane. And I can just use my ticket for another trip.

My impression is that putting a bottle of hand sanitizer on the snack table is about the right level of response for now.

I've seen South African transfers used at the 4-level in the pro-client context and it seems to me that it serves the same purpose (the pro can play 4 of a major after the client opens 1N).

When the top bracket is swiss, anyone who asks to play in the top bracket can be accommodated.
