Would you call for the director?
“Artificial, showing a constructive but non-invitational single raise with at least four trumps.”
BW 2/1: Opener's 3NT Rebid
RR: Thanks. My post adjusted, Axxxx to AKxxx.
BW 2/1: Opener's 3NT Rebid
For this expected moderately simple system that is being constructed, the big question is how often 1NT is (or is not) opened with a 5-card major. Additionally, opening 1NT with five hearts tends to happen more frequently (due to 2=5=3=3 rebid problem after opening 1) than ...
Would you call for the director?
8 1/2 loser hand? If invitational, it is definitely on the bottom end of that - especially with the standards of minimum opening bids these days. My explanation would be "artificial, showing a single, constructive, and non-invitational spade raise with at least four spades".
Insufficient Bid
For those having trouble with the comparable call definition and applications, here is how it generally works for insufficient bids (if not using the "cheapest bid showing the same denominations" option) and most of the calls out of rotation: Following offender's replacement call after his withdrawn call, does offender ...
Insufficient Bid
Jeff, you are correct, the Director will need to (1) judge the replacement call comparable and also, only if he used the "similar meaning" criteria (2) judge whether information known by offender's partner which he should not know affected the result. My experience thus far when doing this has ...
Insufficient Bid
We are finding cases using the Law 23A2 subset criteria for comparable calls where the subset of hands which would make the replacement call are NEARLY (but quite COMPLETELY) inside the set of hands defined by the withdrawn call. Technically, as Law 23A2 is worded, the replacement call cannot be ...
Insufficient Bid
Well, Henrik, I think you make an excellent point, since opener will know your 1NT response to 1 will not look like a model but minimum weak 2-bid in diamonds or hearts. So I guess you are correct that Set B is not quite completely contained inside Set A ...
Insufficient Bid
Henrik, I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. Regarding a pass out of rotation followed by partner opening the bidding 1, both of your stated hands are OUTSIDE Set A (all the hands which would pass as dealer). To be comparable under the Law 23A2 ...
Insufficient Bid
Jeff, in the ACBL, directors are being requested to be flexible with the term "similar meaning" in Law 23A1 to give some reasonable chance for a "real bridge result", but to be ready to apply an adjusted score if the small amount of extra information offender's partner possesses matters ...
