about me

Houston-area resident. Used to live down the street from James Kirk.

At one time was ranked #23 in the entire ACBL in "Pending Points".

I'm related to Louis Coulon DeVilliers, who was the only soldier to force George Washington to surrender. So there's a long tradition of winning in my family!

What does StratoFlight mean as opposed to stratified ?
http://web2.acbl.org/codification/MPBOOK.pdf Bottom of page 17. The "based on" is true for team events (bracketed KO and RR, flighted Swiss, etc) as well as for pair events.
What does StratoFlight mean as opposed to stratified ?
Stratiflighted is a combination of stratified and flighted. Typically, the A players play in their own game, and B and lower together in their own game. In a stratified game, all players are in the same game and A players can play against C players. I think the answer to ...
How do play 6NT from North?
I don't. I reverse the hand diagram and make South declarer. ;)
The Diamond Race
Robots routinely do that with 2=4 or (in this case) 3=5 in the minors.
How should declarer approach 3N? (Part four - the end, I promise)
Was this matchpoints? That seems the only reason to block the clubs.
You too can score 90%!
Freaking awesome! Thanks Carl!
The cost of a bridge game
Yep, depending on location I pay from $12.40 to $24 for a club game, counting tolls plus a dime per mile of car cost. Buddy's even farther away than I am.
ACBL Dues Revenue Flow: Bad for Recruitment
$250K? That unit is not serving its members. Which unit is it? Even $100K is completely ridiculous. It's just not needed. We've got like $75K and that is plenty of reserve in case of an ice storm or whatever ruining our regional for a year.
ACBL Dues Revenue Flow: Bad for Recruitment
We've had games in community centers for years in Houston. The only job worse than running a full-service bridge club for little money is running a bridge club in a community center for no money. But Jeff Bayone is right, IMO. Just getting a piece of the first year ...
What event would you play in?
Mine was the same as Randy's. I was very angry about what the directors did. I spent a great deal of effort promoting the event only to have my efforts undermined.
