Birthday Wish
1 making 6? Should have opened 2, but chances are 6 will be played by partner, and you save $1430.
Birthday Wish
Happy Birthday! Another interesting preset amount of donation could be 360 -- see if anyone recognizes it.
Right Contract for the Right Player
All I can say is, Robert has photographic memory.
The 25 HCP Deck
A premature cross-ruff was indeed a bad idea. It may reduce under-trick, but can also throw away chances of making the contract, which I did not dream of.
The 25 HCP Deck
Interesting scenario. Against a Michaels by an opponent, cue-bid their major is generally a limit raise, but when their minor is unspecified, is 3 just a "cheap minor"? Then is 3 natural or does it show a stopper?
The 25 HCP Deck
There is risk in bidding at any level. Once partner made a balancing double of 1, and we collected 800. Getting 500 from defending a part-score happens quite often.
The 25 HCP Deck
It was not a strong field. I suspect that at these tables N did not bid, and E just jumped to 3NT.
The 25 HCP Deck
I agree. 5 can be made by West.
The 25 HCP Deck
Yes, the spade switch removes the over-trick, since the declarer will finesse in spades any way.
The 25 HCP Deck
Good catch. I was thinking about a transfer but that does not apply to this board.
