I think in some really rare situation in theory it might be done after a directors error where the result for one side is quite easy to determine but impossible to determine for the other side.

So the AC applied the 1948 laws...and people still want the AC's back... I really don't know which is worse, the first ruling or the second one...

If you do something the law says you may not do, if that is not illegal, what is it? Committing an infraction is illegal and playing the ace in this situation is an infraction (if finessing is an LA) And a split score can for sure be an weighted assigned ...
