Prepping for the Daily Bulletin
I agree with David. A minor suit switch specifically from partner's side doesn't seem necessary, and if it is right for our side to lead a minor, we know more about his minor suit holdings than he does about ours. If we couldn't beat dummy's 7 ...
Which agreement set is better, imps if it matters
I think it's percentage to just accept you will be fixed sometimes when you really can't double, e.g. strong 3244. It takes a lot for 3N to be making when you don't have a long suit and LHO has an opening bid with a five card ...
Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda
Suppose you estimate that 5 is making 50% of the time and down one 50% of the time, and 5X will get you either 300 or 500. If the entire room is being allowed to play 4, you need to bid 5 and hope it makes ...
Which agreement set is better, imps if it matters
I would rather reverse it and have 3M=minors, 2N=Michaels, especially after (1)-P-(2). 3m should be pretty good, certainly not a pre-balancing action, but not necessarily so strong that 'partner expected to show a stopper if he has one'.
Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda
If pass is not forcing, I definitely agree with 5. We have enough to usually make and our cards are a bit soft to expect 800. Though against some people you could blast 6 and expect to hear 7.
More about psychs - and maybe a solution that could make everyone happy
Yes, I hardly ever psyche so I can easily see how I might benefit from having to make a compulsory disclosure that I psyche a lot. An unscrupulous person might even boost their psyche frequency by doing it in events where they are not in contention just so they get ...
Please Rank your Top 3 Favorite systems played by you
1. 2/1, but only with weak no trump. I tried 2/1 with strong NT but didn't like it. When you live somewhere that weak NT is common you really notice it when other people get to make life hard for their opponents but your dribbly little 1m ...
Flannery Disclosure
Two questions: 1. Was it really their agreement that 1NT is the system response on that hand, or was RHO operating? 2. With a full understanding of their methods, how likely is it you would you have led something else?
Apologies to partner
On the first one I would try 2NT. They have spades so very likely somebody is making something higher than 2. However you were unlucky it was passed out and they can't make 4. I assume their hearts were 3-2 and you also have a spade trick ...
Is this Lavinthal?
With equal strength. South could play his lowest spade to suggest clubs, then play high-low in hearts to suggest diamonds. Or vice-versa. It is also possible to play a middle card initially with no preference but I would only do that if I'm known to have a sufficient number ...
