about me

Been playing for 55+ years, but am still at the intermediate level.  Recently began teaching beginner bridge to seniors.  Strong believer in the 5Fs--fun, focus, forgive, forget, and if none of those work go into a private place to shout the 5th F.  Another f is for frustration; but we always come back to play in spite of it.

Identifying Bridge Proteges
From what I know of Bobby Fischer's days in Erasmus High School, he was not a good student. Sounds like the opposite of what others have written about most of the participants in the Seamon Juniors. (Of course, Fischer was a total jerk as an adult).
Dark Ages Bidding for Beginners?
For the past year, I've been teaching Beginner and "Advanced Beginner" classes to people in their sixties or seventies. About half had played before, generally in college or against players knowing as much (or little) as they. It is important to differentiate this group from younger players. Only a ...

"Let's not whine about process, to enforce clean play. We don't have it, at any level, and we don't enforce it cleanly and equally, across NBOs, nor do we specify punishments, or define what constitutes cheating: "I know it when I see it, Justice Harlan" Actually,Justice ...
